Here’s the way to conclusively see exactly where you need to go to avoid light pollution:
Use a light map. Here’s a really good one I recommend, which I actually use myself.
Zoom in to your state, and then zoom in a little bit over where you are.
What you’re looking for is anywhere blue. Green will not do. (That’s a rhyme so hopefully you’ll remember it).
The grayish areas have even less light pollution but bear in mind but these will be also further from civilization.
These are the places where you’ll get crystal clear night sky, so they are worth the trek out if you’re serious about getting the perfect conditions for a little one to one with the cosmos.
Otherwise, for everyone else, blue will certainly do.
